7 Ways to Keep Your Home Safe While on Vacation

Are you taking some vacation time this summer? Many people worry while on vacation that their home is safe and secure.
For your peace of mind we have put together 7 ways to ensure that your home and possessions are protected:
  1. Keep a vehicle parked in your driveway.
  2. Keep the house well lit with a perimeter light. A motion sensor will ensure your light will be on when needed.
  3. Ensure your exterior doors have deadbolts, as most break-ins are forced entry.
  4. Ask a trusted neighbor to check in with a spare key, grab your mail and mow your lawn while away. Long grass is a dead giveaway that no one’s home.
  5. Try not to relay that you are on vacation through social media channels like Facebook or Twitter.
  6. Ensure all appliances are unplugged to reduce the chance of a fire.
  7. Install a security system. A security system can detect when an intruder enters a door/window or moves around the house. It will immediately dispatch the monitoring station, which then contacts the police. The police will arrive at your home within minutes.
These small changes will help keep your home secure, as well as protect your family, pets, possessions and may even lower your insurance premium!
