“The Ontario Fire Code requires every ‘dwelling unit’ in Ontario to have working smoke alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas,” explained Ted Wieclawek, Fire Marshal of Ontario. “What many people may not know is that the term ‘dwelling unit’ includes seasonal homes such as park model trailers, cabins and cottages and may include trailer homes, motor homes and other recreational vehicles”
A smoke alarm is a small, dome shaped device that can detect smoke. It's attached to the ceiling and alerts occupants when there is a possible fire. They are extremely important because they can notify you of danger while your sleeping or before you might have noticed on your own. Smoke alarms have saved so many lives that they are required in all homes and buildings.
You should test your smoke alarm and battery at least once per month and make sure you have an evacuation plan in case of a fire.
